Aquiring Images for Blog

I am going to be starting a sports directed blog and have a question...

If I want to post something about last nights game or similar - what is the best way to get images? Would like to use recent images obviously but don't want to get in trouble after a while, when it becomes popular. ;-)

How do sites aquire the images? For example that perezhilton.com or whatever, how do they get images?

You need to look at the licenses for the images and see what they allow. Generally, public domain and most GNU licenses will let you use images royalty-free. Some creative commons licenses will ask you to give credit via a link back. Just look around the net and see what you can find.

Being a sports blogger myself, I know that some of the professional leagues are more strict on this issue than others and you should really check out the league's policies on images as well.

    Thanks for the feedback.

I just noticed that your sports blog is from the same sport as my blog would be ;-) How do you rind that league?

How does one define public domain and GNU licenses?

Most image sites will tell you what license their images are under. Most sites that don't probably don't want you using the image, but you can always inquire about it. I don't really use images on that blog and I know that most of the other blogs in my niche don't either, probably because that league is very protective of its rights.

Basically you have a couple of options:

Take them or create them yourself,
License the rights to use them,
    Purchase them,
    Ask for permission.

Are you looking for stock images, or specific targeted images?

I found a blog post (not my site, just sharing here) that lists over a 100 free stock image sources; haven't tried them all, but the one's I checked were ok. Details below, I'm not able to post links so you'll have to copy/paste (after removing the spaces
