approximate traffic to affiliate revenue

I'm thinking about focusing one of my sites on Amazon affiliate revenue. My current traffic is not as high as it should, but I definitely have goals I believe I will reach in the next 12 months.

My question, how much does even unique traffic correspond to affiliate revenue? If one were to have 10,000 uniques and good ad placement, would one expect $100 in affiliate revenue, $200?

    Feedback greatly appreciated.

If you get 10,000 unique traffic to your site, you should be looking at an average of $500 or more. It also depends on how targeted your traffic and content are... some affiliates have very little content, but blatant advertising which does not convert at all. If that's the case, you will end up with very little. The focus here should be good content with embedded amazon links. That way, your click-through would be very good.

Have a think, and good luck.

@hhelen, while I know that $500 per 10k uniques is not exact, but that gives me a good idea. I think it's obvious that selling a product or service generates way more value. Sometimes I wonder why people with $50k+ uniques don't sell a product/service but solely monetize off of ads. You figure if they're able to create such a formidable site they can convert...

WOw, I have a long way to go. The nice thing is that my traffic is, in fact, targeted. So that should help. Thanks for the baseline info.

It really does depend. I only sell Amazon products through my articles on Hubpages, but my highest converting articles are ones that are super targeted for very specific products. My time-tested method holds to the theory that if some is googling for Y brand yellow striped widgets, they'll be much more likely to purchase right then and there as opposed to the scenario if they landed on your striped widgets reviews page. On Hubpages, I get approximately 2400 unique page views per day, and my Amazon affiliate ID is displayed on 1400 of those impressions (my 60% share, HP gets the other 40% of impressions). I make an average of $150-$200 a month on Amazon alone. I target small products ($10-$25) and they add up!

@kd87, nice to hear that you're making good money on your affiliates. i think i'm going to have to work on getting the 2400 uniques first. :)

Wow, KD that is great.. I am on Hubpages also and I am just starting to see some sales from Amazon.. I hope it stays that way.. I try to target products that are $50-$400 to get a bigger commission. That is great you are making that kind of money per month, good for you...

I will say that if you are going to focus on getting more traffic, make sure it is targeted and make sure that your products are at least $50 and above to make a good commission from it.. If you get 10,000 uniques, you should be making $1,000 and over in my opinion.. If you make good content then people will look at what you are selling as long as it is related to your content..

I have been getting around 40-50 clicks daily and they all unique, but never have anyone purchased. I was happy seeing this turn of clicks in the short time it had been up, but now i haven't had any income from that....
    Any idea...

Where is your traffic coming from? It might not be targetted and it might not be "buying" traffic (i.e. they could just be browsing). Also those clicks could be bots..

Yes I think $400-500 is probably what you "should" make for 10k uniques. But what you "would" end up making really cannot be estimated as it depends on a lot of factors.

    Keyword targetted US traffic (dvd, blu-ray) - 2000-2500 unique visitors/day = $50 - $80/day
