I submitted my site to DMOZ and within a couple of days it was live.

From reading other threads I thought it would take weeks or even months :)

    Congrats.

It really depends on the niche and on the site's quality. If your site is good, and you aren't in a high-yield niche, you should be accepted relatively fast.

I submitted my site (which is about working dogs) several months back and still not listed, I was beginning to think DMOZ is dead, but reading this thread it's obviously not.

But (as you can easily see from successive DMOZ RDF files) DMOZ grows by around 1000 sites a day (that's net of deletions).

So 1000+ additions a day. Yet a visit to DP by the happy webmaster to disclose that fact is so rare that it happens only every few years.

Moral? What you read on DP is atypical, and so no conclusions should be drawn from it.

For far better insight into DMOZ and how to get listed, get a couple of RDFs, find the additions, and study them for the qualities the added sites possess. Even take it as far as asking their webmasters for advice.

Because those webmasters are the experts on getting a DMOZ listing (even if they do not know it yet).

When DMOZ decide to accept you or not, they will not contact you telling what their decision is. You will just have to keep checking back to see if you have been listed yet.

Awesome work man, I mean DMOZ!? Have you seen any spike in traffic since you got in? Some say their traffice goes through the roof, but I've seen no actual proof. Congrats again!

as iboltmedia has said, you will never be contacted by any means by a dmoz editor and there is no system for contacting anyone regarding a submission.

Not very likely. It would depend on the category and when other search engines and directories get a data dump. But traffic directly from ODP is minimal at best.

Yes I think football/soccer sites have very active editors as I too got one listed quite fast.
Also getting listed in DMOZ seems to have done wonders to my SERPS, traffic from search engine has almost doubled:) ... But of course there was not too much competition in my niche ... In one of my sites, DMOZ sends around 4 visitors daily.. Not very impressive but these are highly targetted traffic and stay on the site for a long time and hopefully bookmark the site to return again :)
