Approved as a DMOZ editor!

I was submitting my website last night and decided I may as well write an application as an editor (A technology section, prefer not to disclose the exact area). I checked my emails today and I've been accepted as an editor! So far I have added one site deserving of recognition, and will proceed to add a few others if that one goes through smoothly. I applied for the area I am developing in which is also a personal hobby. I've declared affilations with my own sites and read the rules, which are surprisingly lax - I can submit and approve my own website as long as it is a worthwhile contribution! I was expecting that would not be allowed.

That's all really. Just wanted to gloat ^_^ from what I have read it is generally hard to get into DMOZ, but if you set aside 20 minutes or so to write an honest application, you'll probably get through based on my luck.

My experience is similar to the original poster. If you want to become an editor you might apply for several different categories like your home town, favorite technology, or some other interest.

Like listings, approval for being an editor is based on how active the person responsible is. You could make a submission right now, if the editor looked at it 5 minutes later you could have a ink in DMOZ in 6 minutes. It seems like most categories don't have any actively editing and the same might be said for actively approving editors.

They're cranking out a ton of new editors now - as they really really need them. There are THOUSANDS upon THOUSANDS of requests for both editors and listings per day.

Do you know if there is any activity in the categories above the categories you applied for? It might just be a dead neighborhood.

since DMoz banned it's editors from posting on DP i guess you better be careful or your appointment might be short lived
