Appraisal of my site....

    Hey Guys

I have an adult tube site. I'm sorry if this isn't the appropriate place to put it but I'm unable to post in the Adult section yet. I'll hold off on posting the domain name in case that makes any difference. I just wanted to get some thoughts on appraisals based on statistics.

The site is an AVS tube site that's dedicated to an S&M fetish. I've owned it for about 8 months.

Here is some information about the site:

    Basic:

** About 1,100 videos, about 90% of which are under 10 MB in size. They're all short clips. Most are embeds but they can be pulled into the site with the right grabber. There are about 1,800 members and it grows daily.

Google Analytics for the past 30 days:

170,000 visits (82,904 absolute uniques). That's up from 103,00 visitors in May (site was closed for 5 days while upgrading the script), 103,000 in April, and 78,000 in March.
    2,000,000 pageviews
    12+ average pageviews per session
    8+ minutes Time on Site
    15% bounce rate
    43% new visits

    Search Engines: 73,000
    Direct Traffic: 73,000
    Referring Sites: 22,500

    170,000 visits from 146 countries (USA #1, Europe #2/3/4. China #5, Canada #6)

    Alexa:

150,000 range, 60,000 range for the US.

    Server:

HostV VPS VZ3 Package ($117 per month)

    Revenue:

    June 2010: $310
Sources are mostly affiliate relationships with ALT.com, Webcams.com, and websites that cater to the same fetish.

    Upside:

** The site is the first site catering to this fetish. Traffic has grown steadily from about 1,500 visitors per day to about 5,500 visitors per day. There's one site that's competition but in reality it can be shut down at any time because it's using a social network that doesn't allow fetish material. Other than that it's the only tube website that caters to this fetish.

** Since I'm on a VPS I don't allow embedding. That's limited the amount of sites liking in which has limited Google ranking. I'm in the top 25 for my keyword but once embedding is allowed I suspect that that number will jump. Going dedicated and allowing embedding will no doubt increase this number.

** I'm a bit new to this so there have been some silly errors on my part. My Cams.com account got switched to a percentage payout otherwise the revenue for last month would have been about $385. One website put the wrong link to their affiliate program so I missed out on some revenue. I've embedded their videos with links and got about 50,000+ views but no credit for it. They gave a me a $60 credit to make up for it but it should be a good source of revenue in the future that's not included in the monthly stats yet.

** I have a white label affiliate for Webcams.com that I just set up that isn't really paying out. There's a menu tab for Webcam chat which can be updated to more suitable cam chat option which would most likely increase revenue. Right now that revenue is at $0. This is one area where I don't really know the best option and in order to find it I'd have to invest a lot of time in it. For a pro you can probably get a site you know, plug it in, and immediately get more revenue.

** There's the potential to add a clip/video store to the site. I've already added the links in the menu. Clips4sale has a very large area for this fetish and you'd be able to consolidate those stores directly into the website. I can supply you with Japanese videos for this fetish that you can sell directly. I haven't set that up yet. Based on my location in Japan I need special licenses to sell adult videos that other people in other counties won't have to deal with. Other sites devoted to this fetish have come and gone and I'm betting you can buy their old content and sell it in the store directly.

** Sites like YouTube often have related videos that often get pulled pretty quickly. I've paid for a YouTube grabber but AVS has delayed releasing it. Once it's released you should be able to have a lot of content added daily with minimal effort.

** Unique content. I live in Japan and I've been able to add content from Japan. No other site can do this. I can supply you with the links to where I get the material which will keep the site unique in the future. There's also the next stage...China. It's completely untapped for linking China to the West for this fetish. I've started uploading videos with links to Chinese sites and traffic has increased quickly. Visiting have increased from 2,700 in May to 6,000 in June to about 3,000 in the first 10 days in July. That's after uploading one video to one Chinese site.

** Ads. I'm not using the pre-video, post video, or in-text video ads yet. Those can be added to increase revenue.

** CPM: When the site was small I didn't use CPM, but as it grows you can start adding CPM banners in the future.

** Mobile content: Right now it's only working for iPhone, but a fix is due out for Android soon. That should increase traffic quite a bit. It's the only website with this fetish that has this option and it's mostly untapped at this point.

    Reason for Selling

It's been a great hobby for me, but it needs to be taken to the next level and I really don't have the time or energy to do it. It will need a dedicated server in the future and you can probably double the video content. I'm not a pro at this so I often have to rely on programmers to make minor changes which takes a lot of time and cost. It's been a great experience but a more experienced owner can probably take the site to a whole new level a lot faster than I can with a lot less effort. It was my first time monetizing a site and a pro can make much better use of the potential than I can. My guess is that you can do a quick analysis of the site and find ways to increase revenue overnight.

    Overall

Like I said it's the first tube site dedicated to this fetish and it's the market leader with the most market share by far. And that's with me not knowing what I'm doing 100% of the time. My guess is that if you have your own dedicated server and know about monetizing a site you can double the size and revenues pretty quickly. The small size of the videos means you can handle a lot of clips without having to devote too much power to it. I'd like to go dedicated but at this point it's overkill considering what I'm able to do. My VPS server contract is running out which means I'll have to make the decision to really go at it and upgrade the site or simply hand it off to someone else. If I don't get a suitable offer I'll probably just do that.

I don't allow paid content on the site because I have an affiliate relationship with paid fetish sites. That's to say I have a good relationship with them. No wars or problems on that end. No problems with DMCA claims.

HD videos are possible but I have ti switched off to save on processing power and bandwidth.

    Appraisal

I understand it's difficult to do without a link but you can PM me if that's allowed. The site makes money every month so it's not a fire sale.

If you have any thoughts or questions please let me know.

    Thanks!

Normally a website is worth 8-10 times its revenue, if it's genuinely earning the amount you said, anywhere from $2400-3000 IMO

Thanks for your comments. I was hoping to base it on actual revenues plus the potential for other revenue streams like the pre/post video ads and in-video text ads that I'm not currently using. I used to work in real estate where the value of a building is based on actual revenue streams but you'd sometimes have a situation where not all of the units were being leased out so you'd have to add an estimated amount for future potential revenue. I have things in place to get more revenue but I can't spend enough time getting it all set up because the site is starting to take too much time away from my day job....heh.

Any advice for the best way to sell a site like this? I don't want to put a price of $2,400 to $3,000 when I know there is upside ready to be used tomorrow by the right buyer. Perhaps an online auction with a $2,400 to $3,000 reserve?

If it's really earning that money, just keep the money yourself. As far as %ROI, you've got a good deal going.

Every website has "potential" - if you want to sell you website for more than based on current earnings, realize those earnings first. If it takes too much time to do it, then that is also going to affect the value of your site.

Thanks for all the comments. It's about what I expected. I suppose I'll work on raising the revenue myself before selling.
