Apple never ceases to amaze the computer world. Today they announced they will be moving to Intel processors over the next two years. Already, the OS and all Apple's applications will run on Intel and developers can easily change over their applications using Apple's XCode. WOW
You must be an Apple fan to post news (I assume, hope you are anyways). Everytime I use an Apple, it works flawlessly. The closest I've ever come to that kind of performance is my T30 from IBM which is now 2.5 years old and still humming right along. Q: Why haven't more poeple switched to Apple? Besides the lack of programs, what in your opinion holds so many people back?
There isn't a lack of programs. More people don't use Macs because most people simply want the cheapest computer they can get (which Apple does not offer). Also, Apple is going to use Transitive's stuff to allow the PowerPC stuff to work on the Intel processors.
Buy a cheap computer, get a cheap computer. My Powerbook has been around for years and it'll be around for years more. Oh and I don't have a lack of programs.
Hi Shawn, Matt here, one of your newest members. Nice place! I have never been one to cheap out. My fully loaded (1.0G RAM, high speed hard drive, and much more) IBM laptop was not cheap by any stretch. I have been seriously considering an Apple, that's why this thread caught my attention. So, it's really just about the money huh? And people wonder why their machines break down so often. Knock wood, but this laptop has been running flawlessly for just over 2.5 years now. Only issues have been with MS's OS... those barstads(new word created in my hello thread)!
I can only speak for myself but I've tried to use Macs, even been forced into using Macs on certain occasion, and I always found myself frustrated. It has it's quirks too, as much as Windows, and I just didn't care for them so I've always bought PCs. I've never had big problems with them either. My Dell laptop ran solid for almost six years. It's still running in fact, but not up to par, and I just didn't feel it was worth paying to fix at that point. I don't really get the whole I love/hate Pc/Macs argument. I figure people will end up using what they're comfortable with either way. People come in many colors and sizes, shouldn't our hardware too?
Having used pcs for years. Amost everything is better on the mac in my experience. I never wanted to be one of 'those' mac types but it is just worth switching. Most people dont use mac because.. They have to migrate from pc, most businesses use MS office (MS products on mac are usually the only ones I ever experience problems with). Major PC manufacturers pre install windows. If OSX was available to install on a pc many would take it, im sure. People like to stick with what they know - hence MSN still cant take much share. They are also more expensive, less common and you have to have a high IQ before they will let you have one
I would love to see an Apple OS run on my PC. I would definitely look at it. I made the switch (growing up on Apples and later Macs) to PCs because there was simply so much cool free software and a little greater flexibility with the PCs. My own reasons.
Well that's not going to happen (in the near term anyway). Apple is still going to use their own hardware platform, just with Intel processors (thankfully, IMO).
Deion liked potato chips. Fact. I would still like to see an Apple OS that ran on a PC. More than anything to see how many people would really use it.
I think it would be cool, but if they ever do that, I hope they still make their own hardware. A big part of the Mac "experience" is the hardware. For example, I would buy more Macs if I could run other operating systems on them, I probably would replace some machines running FreeBSD I have with some Xserves (just for the hardware).
Just when I was beginning to think you were cool, Shawn. tut tut... although who am I to speak..I enjoy Vacuming.
You can't be *that* gullible... I'm pretty dorky when it comes down to it. That makes you crazy, not dorky.
Yes I heard about this today at work from a buddle that swears by MAC. Thats cool the MAC OS finally able to be installed on intel based machines Looks like Jobbs finally saw the light and that copywriting your hardware was a BAD move
Why not install LINUX on the G5 machines ??? Linux runs on a mac machine and is the BEST OS out there plus ITS FREE!!!!
Your mistaken, macs will use intel chips instead of motorola i believe in their machines. *reading again, i may be mistaken
