Apache settings to handle more connections and faster

    Hello

    I am using nginx (proxy mode) in front of apache but sometimes about twice a day on high traffic time i got this error:

    504 Bad gateway

    It seems that apache is not send back any results because of many connections and maybe is not able to process all requests fast.

    I am using:

    StartServers 15
MinSpareServers 15
MaxSpareServers 25
ServerLimit 512
MaxClients 384
MaxRequestsPerChild 1000
KeepAlive on
KeepAliveTimeout 3
MaxKeepAliveRequests 100
TimeOut 100

    How can i adjust these so i can get better results?
