apache localhost hangs - armor2net conflict?

    Hi,
    hope you don't poo poo this but I just downloaded and installed apachephpmysql as I figured nice easy way to learn some php.
    installed it on my test machine and all looked good so I installed it on my 'main' machine.
    The installation package opens a browser window and connects to the localhost which basically says everything is working. Works fine on test machine but just hangs on main machine - no not responding, nothing. I can't get onto the net either, tho if I uninstall apache I can. Install it again and dead.
    I searched the net for problems and tried a few things but I don't really know wot I'm doing apache-wise.
    The only difference between the two machines afaik is that I have armor2net on my main machine - could this be the problem?
    Any help/suggestions greatly appreciated,
