I think if you do a search on DP you will find many threads that have covered this topic.

I think that with today's shared hosting prices you will get for the monthly price of two coffee cups a deal that will certainly excel setting your own home network.

I would say that other than having fair hardware, having a wide upload stream is a most important issue, something that by your specification you don't have.

It is great to have full control and to sleep next to your hardware, code, database (I remember my modem connection clicking when I was trying to sleep on the glorious BBS days) but usually it can't be compared to hosting your stuff on a pro company...

Your only real problem is your operating system, desktop versions of Windows tend to be restricted as to the number of concurrent network connections they can process (around 10 I think).

You really need Windows Server 2003 (or 2008), or Linux, if you bump up the memory a bit you can run this in a Virtual Machine using VMWare or Microsoft Virtual PC.

You also need a dynamic DNS provider who will update your domain name DNS'to point to your dynamic IP. There are several out there a quick google will help you find them.

    Jen

    Edit:

No I've had a think about it and the VM wont work either, as its hosted on the box with the 10 connection restriction.

I would suggest you to go for a shared hosting plan. If you setup your domain locally, you will need some knowledge of web hosting, some troubleshooting as well as you will need to monitor it regularly. Also you will have to fix all the problems yourselves. Also now a day shared hosting plans are very cheap.
