Take a look a both showcases:

    http://www.ecommerceforeveryone.com/showcase.php

I'm a little bias towards E4E, but I can tell you both are quality products. E4E has more built in search engine friendly features, its newer so it has a few more modern features like video product reviews, integrated shopping cart with onsite checkout (so your visitors don't have to leave your site to order). Aom on the other hand is a little more mature and polished. There are some tools on e4e that are a little rough around the edges, but thats only because it doesn't have as many versions as AOM has. On design and conversion aspect, I'd say E4E has Aom beat hands down. Alot of people use both products, but as someone working for E4E, I can tell u AOM is probably our number one source of new customers (converting), lol.

There is a big difference between the products that you should understand, one is just a downloadable script, which means once you download it, you're off on your own. E-commerce For Everyone is a service, so you can actually call people for support, and get guidance on your path to success. E4E also has additional services like style customization and website marketing service, so even if you aren't a guru, you can still have a first rate website.

There are alot more differences in the product pointed out in this thread.

    thanks,
