aol is not owned by google?

so who get the money for the sponsored results?

    do they split it?

AOL and google split the revenues for the sponsored links just as someone with an Adsense account can place a search box on their site and make money from any ads clicked. However, since AOL gets so many searches I'm sure google gives them a better price on the clicks.

At one time Google and AOL were in the same building, this is probably why AOL has a slightly modified search, on top of that the "Powered by Google" thing helped google start when they were in the same building during the early 2000's.

I think AOL just use the Google API. Revenues will be split since I remember reading about them doing the deal together a few years back.
