Personally, I can't stand AOL, but I thought you may like to know. With all the talk of Yahoo, we may be forgetting AOL.

i have an old aol email address that I've saving in case i need to restore a password or something i registered in that address. well anyways I've gotta tell you aol has been the buggiest software I've ever used in the entire 8 years or however long it's been in service. It's the only software program i have that i can guarantee that i will get some type of error while using it.

Well i go to download there new software the "aol desktop" so i can check email and thats literally it because i use firefox to view websites. I'm an online advertiser like most of you on this site and we all know the different between good ad placement and accidental clicks. aol is banking hardcore on accidental clicks in there new software. They've research and well thought out all of the accidental click areas. It's irritates me.

    Examples:

oops i ment to scroll down and look at my email, this ad used to be a 728x60 on the bottom but they weren't getting enough accidental clicks.

oops i ment to click go.

probably the worst bungling management in Internet history - and there have been some truly horrible examples.

I thought AOL was crap from day one. They were the original spammers with tons of junk mail disks sent out by snail mail.

With people migrating to high-speed access through their phone and cable companies, AOL is on its way out, IMO. The days of dial-up are numbered.

So are the days of having a large population of ignorant users. Most are savvy enough that AOL doesn't appeal to them.

They targeted the less knowledgeable people (part of their reason for trying to trick people into clicking ads) and now it's backfiring on them.

    Hi

haha nice post divisive, aol were doing very well at one point I think they were the 2nd most popular isp in the uk at one point, they are a perfect example of a company that has been caught and passed as they have failed to move with the times.

Their search engine is also pants lol !

AOL seems to have gone out of its way to confuse their users senseless. Their browser is shocking. Slow and far to much going on.

'You have email' - F*** off, when I want to check my email I will. Even if it is a strangely seductive voice i'd rather be left alone.

I feel like turning down call out IT repairs when I know they are using AOL.

AOL? Wasn't that like a dial-up ISP or something back in the mid 90's? I didn't know they're still around....

AOL? Doomed? AOL is not doomed. They already died 8 years ago. I haven't seen or used AOL since AOL 4.0 when I first got on the internet.

AOL was an incredibly stupid concept to begin with. The idea that your surfing was limited to what was essentially one large private network while others were out there cruising the real internet from a variety of service providers always seemed...so incredibly stupid to me. I couldn't understand how they got any business let alone nearly as much as they received during their peak.

Screw AOL...it was a terrible idea from the start.

    Cheers

AOL has always been pathetic. They used to be the hot thing when the internet first got big, but even then the only reason they were used was because we simply didn't have many other GUI options available to get to the internet. Even then though...they were still just horrible. Slow speeds and crappy software is the summary of AOL. As for the accidental clicks, I can't really hate on them for that. That's just smart ad placement tactics on their part. At least they aren't completely stupid...

How can AOL be doomed when it's already dead, and has been for several years?
