Anything wrong with domains from different countries?

I'm considering registering a domain name with a .VC ending.... which is some island from the caribean... and before I register it I wanted to know if anybody had anything bad to say about this... will it hurt me in the search engines? any other downsides?

BTW... it's a really nice domain... and if I register it I'll post it here.

For most registrars, you need to proof to them you live in that country.. like, .us is only available to people living in the states...

I got a .be and they suspended it cause I wasn't in the country

It just depends on the country, many do allow people to live elsewhere. .tk is popular.

It is not neccesarily bad to get a domain name from different countries, but I would never buy a domain for a specific country if my website was not aimed to that country, or in that countries language. Comparing it to the same name with .com, its really worthless.

As a poster above said, they might have some strange rules about who can register that kind of domain so be sure to read carefully about it before you buy. For som tld's you can find someone in that country that helpes you with the registration, and its ok.

Another thought in this regard is the belief that if you register a country specific TLD it is better to host site in that country. Hosting in some countries is more expensive than hosting in others.

The whole point to buying a country specific domain is to look more credible targetting that certain market (as well as to appear in local SERPs). If that aint your objective then I wouldnt suggest bothering with it.
