Anyone Want To Test New ad_network.php Code?

Discussion in 'Co-op Advertising Network' started by digitalpoint, Dec 28, 2004.

This morning, I've been working on some new ad_network.php code. This changes a couple things...

    • If the ad server is not available (for whatever reason), it waits 15 minutes before trying again. This will prevent what happened this morning where sites were slow because they were trying to get a new ad over and over.

    • Some basic parameters are dynamic, rather than hard-coded. This includes things like:

      • Number of ads to cache
      • Time to wait before getting a new ad and dropping the oldest
      • Minimum time between getting a new ad (this really only applies on the initial cache fill up)

This should not require a flush of the ad_network_ads.txt file or anything other than a replacement of the ad_network.php file.

If anyone wants to try it, feel free (it's what's available on the setup page now) and let me know if you find anything weird by chance (I'm already running it on my sites).

If you look in the beginning of your ad_network_ads.txt file, do you see a few parameters? The dynamic stuff is saved to the beginning of the file. Just want to make sure...

Good... that's what it should look like.

Also, I made an update to it just now. I found a problem where if the ad server wasn't available it sets all the parameters to 0 (which is not very useful of course). So if you could update yours again, it would be ideal. :)

Another thing this will let me do is write some code that monitors the server load... If loads go up, it can tell all the ad network to get ads once an hour instead of once every 15 minutes. Then when loads go down, it can tell everyone to go back to 15 minutes as an example.

Is it happening now? If you look in your ad_network_ads.txt file, is it recent (towards the end)?

I just noticed on some of the links an extra "/" in the code.

    Example: <a href="http://www.seo-dev.co.uk/seraphim-proudleduck/" class="bskj9f2d" />Seraphim Proudleduck</a>

    What causes this?
