I just received email and voicemail that they (Vonage) are going public and was offered to get in the IPO. What are your thoughts on VOIP service? I have been with Vonage for 2-3 years now and have no problems. Do you think Vonage as a publicly trading company will make good with their product/service?
It should be interesting to say the least. I got offered the IPO deal also. I have used their service going on 4 years now. I have to say that overall it's been a little above average considering it is VOIP. Just the usual problems every now and then like calls breaking up a little, service down periodically (this happens about once per month on average) - but it is usually back up and running in a few minutes (resetting the box works for this problem about half of the time). I would say that their customer service is about average also. One thing they really need to deal with is their slow website.
Well I have Vonage. (about 1 yr) Upgraded my cable to 100KBs upload and it still is crappy far to often.. But then again my Comcast Cable is crappy far to often.. so who knows whom is to blame? All I know is that if the telecom/cable etc. companies weren't in bed with/overregulated by the government, things would be much more competitive. I.E. Better and cheaper. Im not holding my breath.. Anyway for me its 90$ per month for basic cable/net/vonage. VS $100 for Talk America and nothing else. So its a wee bit better..
Hey SumitBahl What is the speed of your broadband connection in India and how much you pay for it? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Yay to me! 100 post.
The connection on which my vonage is 512 kbps broadband. Sometimes even 5 machines are online on this connection and the voice never breaks. I have tried this even on 128kbps connection and it works perfectly on that connection as well provided you are not doing anything else on internet at that the time you are on phone. I am paying $30 per month for unltd US calling, throw in $5 more and you get a toll free number as well.
Just to follow up on my earlier post; I am on the fastest available in my area (Las Vegas, NV) Cox broadband service - speed is usually appx. 5.1 mbps up and 750 kbps down. I have 2 desktops and 1 laptop on a network and two vonage lines with an 800 # on each paying $40 per month for each line. Cox is $149 month (including cable tv service). I usually am running only 1 or 2 computers at the same time and I still have problems with Vonage on occasion - it definately isn't a bandwidth issue in my case.
Surely not, i have 512 kbps line and 4 computer running on it and one vonage phone, voice never breaks, no call drops.
BTW, i was checking the vonage website a few days ago, and i saw one new product, PAP2 device, its just like a cordless phone (size of a mobile phone), it is wireless internet ready, so you just walk into a WiFi zone and switch on that phone and it would give you a dial tone. Comes with a charger. It would ocme pretty handy if you travel a lot. Pretty cool. I would love to get some reviews on it, if somebody tried it.
It is important to distinguish between Vonage seen from a customer perspective (it might be good) and Vonage seen from an investment perspective (it might not be so good). Vonage has never made a profit, they are paying more than $200 in marketing costs for each new subscriber line, and their churn rate is increasing. Not a good position to be in IMHO. I use both Vonage and Nuvio. I find Nuvio works better. But both are still VoIP and in that regard, suck to some degree some of the time. But for the price, I'm not complaining. I've been selling Vonage and Nuvio for some time now and seem to do pretty well with both. Vonage's reseller program only gives a one time payout though. Nuvio gives me a recurring peice of the pie every month!
