Anyone using TOR, a free proxy-anonimizer?

Hello there,

Just wondering if anyone knows anything about TOR
It's a free anonimizer.
I've just installed it to check it out and was wondering how "anonymous" is this?

Can you still see a person's ip if he's using a proxy?

 

Yes, they work.

 

Best way to check it is to visit your own site, and then check in log file for IP.

But still you can trace someone under a proxy using them, right?

 

I've never used the one you are trying. But I have tried this one http://proxy.org/

You don't have to install anything, you just type in the url and you can either select a proxy from a list or it will choose one randomly for you from a list of 274 proxies.

Tor is (was) a project originated from U.S. Goverment (military).

 

I'm not sure where did you get that info, but it looks like it's managed by volunteers now..

Like i said was or is...wasn't sure about it. But it definately originated from U.S. military/navy.

Something you have to keep in mind Michael...when you surf with Java and Javascript enabled your browser can still leak your ip, through usage of certain ip detection scripts. Better to disable them but certain sites might not work properly anymore.

You should also change the SID of your computer something that you can do with a nifty litle program called IDBuster from the software company that Spyblaster originated from...javacool software i believe.

And most importantly you have to use Elite proxies. When you have everything set up you can do some browser testing through various websites. Lockdown corp has a whole variety of browser tests that will tell you if your real ip leaks through.

If anonimity is a issue for you this would definately help you to achieve this the most, just don't do anything i or most of us wouldn't do here on the forum since the Net isn't that anonymous if the right people are looking for you.

Oh yeah, disable cookies as well since ''personal'' info can also be retrieved from this.
