Hi I have recently ben using wordpress for a blog, but am interested in seeing its full capabilities as a CMS - does anyone know of good examples of wordpress being used as a CMS rather than blog? Many thanks
Hi I have dabbled with Joomla, but from my understanding is it is not so search engine friendly as wordpress? I think from clients perspective wordpress would be much easier to manage - less complicated to find your way around.
Hey. I don't know if this would be any help but I'm starting up a recipe website and I'm using WordPress. Here is the URL: recipes dot triniwiki dot com It's currently on a subdomain. I might get a separate domain for it later on. It's not complete as yet but that's basically how it's going to look. I might add in a few more mods later on. Hope this helps in your decision.
Joomla is the best CMS right now ! , You just need to install loads of plugins , modules and components to get it the way you want , in addition it is SEO Friendly , you just have to install some SEO Plugins.
the following is good examples on how I'm using wordpress not just for blog cms / portal - www.osx-e.com showcase site - www.dirten.com and www.logotwo.com directory - www.ventedoy.com
I think using a blog plate for such as wordpress is going to be how most web site will be in the near future. It is much easier for me to modify a blog template than to start from scratch. This is coming from someone who has limited knowledge of web design. The reason I like blog style website the most is because they are more interactive than a traditional website. There are templates now that offer an intro at the top which make it look more like a traditional website. I am not allow to post links yet but you can copy my url and check out one of my blogs > horseapproved.com
I recently reviewed YGo Greenary theme for WordPress which has more of a CMS look than blog. You can read it here. http://www.themecritic.com/wordpress/non-blog-style/ygo-greenary-cms-like-wordpress-theme.html
well, if you recomend wordpress, it must be better than the rest! as you make 6 figure income from the blogs. anyways, since wordpress is in php, and i don't know much of it, i tend to hold be a bit back. i like to use blogger, it is lot easy to use and coustomize. and google love it!
To refer to the original post, By using a blog script for a non-blog website you might end up having to pay developers to extend its functionality to be able to handle whatever tasks you require, thinking ahead. You may be fine today, and it may turn out to be lacking features in the near future. With a true cms you have the flexibility to extend to almost no limits, with tools that are already there for you to use.
Exactly. Blogs are developed for blogging, CMS - for content management. If you are afraid that Joomla is not SEO-friendly, read Joomla forums, there are a lot of ideas (+components and plugins) how to make your Joomla-based site SEO-friendly.
I don't really make a six figure income. It's just something I hope to do one day. But maybe if you keep telling people that I do they will believe it and visit my sites But wordpress is the best still.
For one of my sites, I use Joomla, combined with Wordpress. The component is called OpenWP for Joomla. Check it out. Works pretty nicely and looks great on my site (seamless).
I've been using both scripts on my websites and feel like WP is nice as a blog but can't beat Joomla's flexibility when building a complex website.
