I can't seem to get any freaking template to work with osCommerce. Am I supposed to install osCommerce then the template or get osCommerce up and working then upload the template? Neither ways seem to work. All I ever get is this error: "Warning: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/run/mysqld/mysqld.sock' (2) in /home/www/catalog/includes/functions/database.php on line 18" Does anyone know anything like osCommerce or how to get templates working?
What you have to do is this: Install OSCommerce, and get all your admin (backend) stuff set up and installed and configured into the database. Then open up through your FTP service client and go to the template folder and upload your new template. Then you have to go to your www.domain.com and login to the admin section and change your template and activate it. I hope this helps you out.
It varies depending on how your server is set up as to the EXACT path you follow, but here is a nice tutorial to show you something. http://www.websitetemplatedesign.com/oscommerce-templates-installation-instructions-i-8.html
One of my friends use oscommerce for his onlineshop . He told me it is excellent script . For your question , I can't offer help without more detail information. You can solve the problem according to the error information . It seems like a database connection problem .
