Anyone Use An "Advanced" Search On Your Directory?

I see most directories haver a search bar to search their directory for a keyword.
Anyone have an advanced feature for their search bar? Such as search by city, zip, location, or anything else?

I will probably ad some type of advanced search assuming my guy can do this, so just wanted to see some ideas out there.

    Thanks!

I think the % of the visitors using an advanced search feature is less than 0,1%. In fact I think this is the most unused feature on a directory. Why to invest time and money in such a featured when you could do something else more useful to your directory.

    just my 2 cents...

What directory script are you currently using on your directory? I will assume it is the TCM directory which you are referring to. phpLynx has this feature available on the current site demo, another reason for its greatness;)

I've never searched a directory other than when I've been locating my own link.

Advanced search is even more un-necessary in a general directory.

I've used search but not for my own links; just info i was looking for(locally), to which I found.

I strongly disagree, depending on which type of advanced search you are referring to.

If something like on these current scripts, then yes, I agree, otherwise I disagree.

I have a MOD that is better than any of the current scripts, and I'd be willing to bet my a$$ on it too! :evil grin:
The best part is I can integrate it on anything. I'm 'scalable' these days :p

I was referring to the standard phpLD type stuff. Not that uber special stuff that helps you search for local cement mixers :D

Yea, this would be for a niche directory, not general. A user had suggested it to me and I agreed.
Maybe someone will come along with a niche directory and show what they have. But I will go fwd with it as I think it's a good feature for the user since location is an important part of this niche.

    Thanks.

Directories that can also work as yellow pages for location local business might have this kind of search. I have only used search to locate my links in directory :)

usuall webdirectories list websites cateagorically, so hardly any need for search feature. But most of the webdirectories come up with this feature, just to faciliate their users.
