or any new domain name extentions for that matter.

how easy is it for big companies to make a new domain extention, and literally earn hundreds of millions of dollars within a few days of opening them for sale.

seems like a scam to me, there providing a service we dont really need but feel as though we should be apart of. theres already tonnes of domain extentions, atleast 50.

also, .me extention is becoming available in the summer.

im so glad someone is catching on.

new registries KNOW that big corps will buy X domains in any extension to *protect their brand*.

They also know there is enough speculators to buy X domains.

then they try and push more and more speculators in to get reg volume up.... but the end users don't come. See .biz.

I think we use the word scam far too liberally, Dot asia is definitely not a scam, although I would certainly say that it is an extremely profitable domain extensions for the registrars.

It's not a scam but it comes across like that due to so many problems people have had problems registering with the big mess of which domains were available and which ones wern't. Some registers took a lot of money of consumers but they never got their domains as they were not available and they had to wait for the money to be refunded.

Every landrush reeks of scam with registrars behaving poorly and not refunding money, holding out 90 days so you can't charge back, etc.

so how many asians are aware of this .asia? Hate to burst your bubble but it isn't the EU. Asia doesn't come close to having any sort of unity in terms of all being asian considering *asia* spawns from the middle east to the tip of russia by alaska. Europe is moving towards one gov't/currency. Africa even has the AU (not saying they are close to europe's unification). .EU is a complete failure. Why would .asia EVER succeed?

Dont know why you should call it a scam but I would be wary of registering dot asias unless you could snatch a
    good generic keyword.

Its not as if there is a type-in traffic like dot coms/net or heavens forbid dot org.

Developed asias domains might be of some value in the long term.

Domain flippers will benefit cashing in on the hype.

So if you have got cash to spare use some common sense, considering the crappy domains I have seen
and if you are looking for a quick flip then go for good names.

It's a cross between being a moneymaking scheme (which it is), and doing something about the fact that domain name availability is going to be one of the biggest problems of the internet in the distant future...unless the internet will be replaced with something else a few decades from now...

It is just another money making opportunity for dot asia registrars. There are now more and more extensions coming up with minimal restrictions, no point chasing after all these. What we need is a url, best if it is dot com.

yep - theres money all round - money making for registers, money making for resellers, money making for developers and money making for the domains owners. its called capitalism. The asian internet market will be bigger than the us in less than 3 years and the only .coms that can be regged now is 24234-31212e1-rqwrds.com

Is it a case of an asian company having to pay $xx,xxx for a simple .com
