I'm not sure it matters what the primary audience is, Liminal. I think you'll find that's pretty close to stats for most sites except perhaps web development sites and forums.
Well, one of my tech sites still gets ~80 of IE traffic which I am finding surprising. I would think this would not be the case but it is.
Firefox is still buggy when it comes to certain web features - even some of the Firefox fans get annoyed about that...
Problem with FF (IMO) is it is so insistant on web standards coding that it makes sloppily coded sites look messed up. The problem with taking that stance is that most internet users couldn't give a rat's ass about how well the site is coded they just want to visit their favorite site. Hence not being able to display their favorite site = you just lost a user = the reason IE still dominates and FF needs an intenet movement by designers just to get a little piece of the market share..
You mean for XP SP2, right? Well, I think Windows and Firefox has something in common here. The slow road to Windows XP That's from June 14, 2005, but I don't expect much has changed since then. My point is neither Microsoft or Mozilla has a foolproof system for updating their products. Not yet.
Let me rephrase my point, then: If you are a fan of Firefox and/or other Mozilla browsers, do yourself and your fellow fans a service and stop claiming it's a more secure browser. Let them know, clearly and succinctly, that they need to keep checking the Firefox website or that little red arrow on more recent versions and ensure that they have the most up-to-date version of the browser. If they fail to do that, they ARE (not "might be") at risk. I still find it remarkable that in order to update the browser one has to download and reinstall a whole new copy. Whatever else you may say about Microsoft, at least they got that one right.
On this I agree 100%. Almost makes me want to open IE out of pure spite. For me, I find that FF acts like crap on the Mac more than on the PC. Why? Who knows. Seems really stable on Linux! I tend to use both Safari and FF at all times. IE, nearly never, mainly because I use a Mac so much and there really are no newer versions of IE for the Mac. On the PC I use FF, then IE. Mainly FF though. My main reasons for using something other than IE on my PC have pretty much always been the lack of a PopUp blocker almost exculsively. Though I think that has changed now.
For Windows XP SP-2, yes it has - popup blocker now integrated in IE. For other versions of IE, there's always the numerous toolbars like Google and MSN.
Agreed. I hope FF 1.5 does as promised. The 1.5 RC2 version that's released now installs with automatic updates turned on by default. Basically Firefox is playing catch up to Windows here, but how long did it take before Microsoft made their updates automatic? Prior to XP SP2, Microsoft faced the exact same problems you're complaining about now. A lot of people I know totally ignored the update warnings in Windows. Other programs do that too, like iTunes (at least the Windows version). I'm not saying it's right, but you can't compare that to IE. If IE required a complete download for every update, then that would mean all of Windows would be downloaded. Obviously Microsoft figured that one out a long time ago. (Edit: Oh yeah, I forgot to mention that FF 1.5 has incremental updates) And for everyone complaining about non-security problems in Firefox, I need to gather my thoughts on that. But come on, I'm sure if you just Googled for some comparison tests, you'd find each browser has its share of web feature problems.
Firefox is most secure than IE. Yesterday I a called firefox a big whore and it said I'd don't care what you think I am. I said the same thing to IE yesterday and IE started crying and hasn't spoken to me since. Case closed.
Actually, IE said, "I know you are but what am I?". Firefox said: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?p=435126#post435126
I could use a shrink like you. You are continually giving out all this free therapy. Sometimes you make me laugh so hard, I often forget what a miserable day I had. Thanx once again!
I use Firefox where possible, but sometimes I use Konqueror (I'm a Linux user). Stats on my site by User Agent: Firefox 66.1% M$IE 29% Unknown 2.1% Opera 2% Mozilla 0.7%
I just use IE to test how my sites would look in them. And oftentimes, fixing my code to look right in IE makes my head ache.
Gee. Look at that. qscomputing wrote "M$" instead of "MS". Wow, that's hilarious. I've never seen that gag before... about 1994
I use IE.. I don't bother to switch since I have all my password-autofill saved in IE. Anyone knows a good autofill exporter?
I am using both IE and Firefox. Use Flock once in a while these days too just to test out this browser.
