Blogger was my first blogging platform [june 2004]-- and I used the service for my primary business blog, however I ported files to my private domain via their FTP service. When Blogger stopped supporting FTP in March 2010, I found a new service [Thingamablog]. I always want my blogs hosted on my private domains. Legal issues. I could not afford another WordPress blog on my private domain-- so the fact Thingamablog sends html files [like Blogger used to] to my server-- pleases me a great deal. blogger was great-- in that it was so easy to learn and to get started. I personally owned a blog on blogger. And i really prefer blogger blog instead of wordpress or any other platform. Because blogger provides me more control over my blog customization and also for SEO purpose, If you know how to manage your blogger blog for SEO, then you won't have to worry about crawling and ranking. And also blogger provides you better features and control over your syndication. You can check my blogger blog in my signature, its on blogger and its really can compete with any wordpress blog.
I actually just moved my entire Blog over from Blogger to Wordpress this week. I did it for a couple of reasons....#1 - More felxibility in site and programming. #2 - Easy for visitors to interact and comment on posts. Also, with Blogger, you have to do some pretty complex operations in order to get links pointed to your Blog to count for your domain. With wordpress, you install and run the Blog on your domain so any links coming to it means all the Link Juice is direct to your domain. I did create a [www.blog.click-finders.com] redirect, however the RSS feed did not work on that page nor could you view indivual posts under that URL structure. Thats whay I went with Wordpress. More benefits: SEO Plugins are A+++ Social Media Pluggins are A+++ URL Structure is up to you Date & Time Stamps are up to you. Maybe they are all on Blogger too and I just never took the time to find them. Makes no difference now though....we are moved and are 100% THRILLED we did! New Blog is www.click-finders.com/blog if anyone is interested
I don't get all the people saying they use it for SEO and backlinks. Are you talking about spam? I don't mean what works for creating a bunch of pointless websites to link to content. Nor do I mean commenting on Blogger blogs for links (which have been nofollow in the past few years). I'm just talking about hosting a real site/blog on Blogger. Do you feel there are any debilitating disadvantages to it? People who say that Blogger will shut you down, ban you, I'm guessing are talking about with regards to setting up link farms. If you host a real site/blog, then I doubt you'd be banned or have it deleted.
I have more than 10 blogger blog & some have good PR in Google. But I had to work hard to get PR from google. I think .com domain name is much better as I'm switching to this one.
Build a blogers blog for almost every client .Yes they easily manageable .and they beneficial for them aswell .
As I understand you only can rent the own domain name on blogger. I didn't find how can I manage my own domain name as I do it with wordpress blogs.
I don't use blogger as often as I used to, I only use i for building links, I agree with everyone here if you buy your own domain name and hosting and host wordpress on your own it is so much better and all the plugins they have it will help you out a lot.
No, I dont find it gives me a lot of control, which is why I stick with wordpress (and always have since the beginning). Don't regret my decision.
Blogger is not going to close your account deliberately, but you miss dozens of possibilities they may do it. Google may decide to close the whole Blogger site, while it may sounds funny, bear in mind that it is only their own decision, and they are not obliged to compensate you in any form. If someone gets your Gmail password, login and transfer your blog to another account, you will have plenty of problems to prove that you didn't gave it away willingly.
