Got this mail today, is it legit or just another scammer. Cause to me it smells like
reply to this mail and we will send you a million great offers in your email on a daily basis.

They inquire about a porn domain, that i own.
And i seem to remember seeing a post here on DP about this.
A Phd. Dude wanna buy a porn domain :D

It was sent to my whoisguard email.

    -------------------------------------------------------------------
    Hello,

Please send me price for your domain.

We are very interested in this name.

Did you get offers from other people already?

Our company develops client-server systems (Delphi / Interbase), so investing in domain names is not my main business.

Looking forward to do business with you.

    Best regards,

If it is a scam.. I'm curious. Whats the deal with people sending you money orders or cashiers checks in payment? i have received a few genuine cashiers checks, but did not cash them because I knew they were scams. If the scammer wanted to pay in this way, how would you end up getting penalized? Just by cashing the check?

hmmm....well I havent heard of anyone actually receiving any kind of checks in the mail....is this one of those checks that has a paragraph in the back, where it holds you to some kind of agreement?? If not I think I'd be more curious to check with a bank to see if the funds are legit... might just be some good extra money to register more domains...

It's a scam. Being around for awhile. Sad to say that I fell for it a few years back. Still using the same letter I see. Many others have fallen for it also.

Reply and you will get a letter asking for an appraisal first. They will request the appraisal from AllForDomains.com

(By the way, don't fall for their domain wanted list either. They charge 25.00 for this scam.)

Next (After you pay for an appraisal) They will say that they want to sell your domain for you...not purchase it.

    Still waiting...:)

    Careful.

I have no the link because I do not use to visit NamePros forum, but my partner who spends most part of the day right there told me about that scam.

In such forum there are several threads discussing it.

I've got another similiar email, I was immediately suspicious when the amount he was offering ($7,500) is far more than I would expect for the domain. I then started getting the exact same email to every reply I sent, basically saying I should get an appraisal. Fortunately I followed the old adage "if something looks too good to be true, it probably is" and did a bit of searching for "opera engineering scam" (both here and on Google) and that confirmed my suspicions.

I must admit though that it's one of the better scams that I've seen, and I can see how people could easily fall for it as some of the emails do look genuine and it doesn't immediately set off the alarm bells. I just had a gut feeling that it wasn't right rather than any one particular thing that put me off.

See Scambusters. Sorry, I'm not allowed to post links.

Usually, they send you a cheque and it's more than it should be, so you send them a cheque for the difference.

It appears to be OK but it's drawn on a foreign bank and six months later you find out it's bounced.

I'm not sure if you get charged for submitting a bouncing cheque. It probably depends on your bank.

    Good luck.
