In the meantime, you might want to run a virus checker or spyware remover to make sure that your computer is free of viruses and other spurious software. I got that same message the other day. I was doing some some searching using some advanced parameters though so I thought it was freaking out on me. Weird.
Weird... Check out these threads, maybe you can find something http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=45004 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=21442 http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=19865
If you've been running some kind of SEO software from your PC (SEO Elite, Total Optimiser Pro etc) without setting a proxy iin your preferences you'll get this message. Be aware, too many of these and you could find your IP address being blocked.
none of those today.. and fryman usually i search the fourm but its late should have been sleeping for the last 3hrs and im not thinking 100% clear...
I have seen that message many times, the first one early this year when the phpBB forums were infected with the virus causing crashes everywhere and then after trying to access any URL phpBB related. I thought the message comes accross due outdated phpBB installations that Google is able to detect now but not on those early days when a couple of times I saw a message saying Google search could not be used due infected as well
Google randomly blocks queries for some selected terms (try searching "powered by phpbb" and click to page 2). It also briefly blocks IP ranges with known problems since Santy.
I use to use a serps tracking program, it was a desktop application. After the application did 'too-many' queries, for the rest of the day I would get the same error, with a user verification message if I wanted to continue searching. I got rid of that app. tom
I've had this error before as well. I knew my pc was clean, but I figured it must have been someone on my ISP that was flooding them.... "appears that your computer or network has been infected"
wow... i thought of buying that program, but that isnt really good news to me. Do you have your settings set to be SE friendly?
It happened to me 3 times last month when I tryed to find out how many forums pages are cached site:mysite.com phpbb site:mysite.com "you can not post" They should change that message because I'm not a virus.
it happens when you hit google with too many searches in short time, that's why some experience them with proxies only, because too many people use those proxies
Also with 'unethical' FF extensions that query pagerank for instance. Google basically blocks unwanted requests. If your machine queries them too often, you get a time out.
