Anyone see PR drop since recent PR update?

Not much has changed on our site except that we added a few thousand more links. ..but oddly enough a PR drop by one point.

I hope when google figures out their own algo..they will let me know what i can do to better my site. :D

A competitor opens a site, its nothing but images (even the text!) an SEO nightmare which you would never give a second glance to as being your 'competition'. But, google gave them a PR 4. They have 2 backlinks which are both garbage links. they have literally no text on their index page except an email link. check this out http://villageprinting.com

Somebody threw up an all image slice page. and got a PR 4 . .
we have thousands of links.. but i suppose that doesnt matter?

I think, Google doesn't want to disappoint the seo guys. In fact, most of the sites gain the PR but not dropped (as per i seen).

Its probably becuase fo the age of the domain that has caused the PR4, its very strange though. Ive also noticed an increase in PR to be honest, not any major drops. From past experience, I have ascertained that good quality content is probably the biggest factor in deciding the credibility of a website.

All off the sites I do work for stayed the same or went up in PR.

I wouldn't worry too much about the PR as I would your ranks. It is quite odd though that the site has such few links. It has taken me considerably more links to hit PR 4 then what the site you mentioned does. The good thing about your competition is that they have neglected to put a lot of text on their homepage which will hurt them for ranking anything.

You may see the competitions site as showing only 2 backinks, but google has gotten smarter on reporting true backlink totals so they may very well have many more than just 2. However, if they truly do only have 2 links, the value of those links in googles eye may be what is pushing their ranking so high.

A couple of my sites went up a rank, but my directory went down 1 rank... even though I have been only accepting quality links

Google ranking based on the site's importancy by BL, content, crawling rate, clicks etc. So no BL not means that no PR

I'm also seeing some weird PR changes...sites with crappy or few links managed to gain PR easily. Not sure what went wrong with algo.
It does, I believe you have better traffic than that site.

The last update has been fruitful for many as most of us have seen uprating in PR...

Oddly enough, I have seen couple of sites which are really good but yet they have seen their PR drop...let alone an upgrade!

You are probably one amongst those unlucky few...i guess...
but do not worry...there is always a next time...:)

This update was only good for new sites that received a starter PR of 3 or 4. Every other one we've been tracking stayed the same or dropped by a point.

The biggest differences so far took place in Inbound link count (went down) and internal link count (went up). These results came from tracking your external links and internal links in Google Webmaster Tools.

My site has also dropped from PR 4 to PR3, any reason for this?

it happens, not anyones fault really.....maybe googles lol.....you might want to continue your link building, that could be a reason for the drop.

I agree with nettech's comment about the domain age probably being the primary factor in your competitors pr boost.

Nearly all of my client's sites have stayed the same; a couple have picked up a point but most frustratingly our PR6 site has dropped to a PR5

It will bounce back and to be honest I'm more concerned with SERPs rankings than PR rankings.
