Just wondering for those of you running any of these types of sites/scripts what kinda server you are using (in terms of hardware specs and such)

Im being told they are very intense on servers, so Id like some first hand responses from those running them what they think is minimum and what you are using if you are running one.

(where else would i post this question?)

I used run videoshare before. Gave up it was so buggy and wrote my own script.
The main thing with videos is to reduce them in size which in effect means converting to FLV when a user uploads them.

There are tons of scripts around I'll leave it others who have used them to try recomment one.
Videos themselves aren't heavy per se on your server. You'd need serious traffic before your server starts getting bogged down with video processing. By serious traffic I mean anything upwards of 3000 views a day and you may need to consider your spec and bandwidth options. But for the vast majority of servers and websites, there is no problem with server capability on video sites.

I might also add that some hosts come with FFMPEG installed as standard. If you're using shared hosting ( you can install FFMPEG on your own dedicated server so theirs no issue there) do check with the host company first that you can install it as it will be required, along with all the other files (LIBBOG, etc).

I'd recommend PHPMotion. It's a very good youtube clone. It's pretty easy to use and configure too. And best of all it's at that unbeatable price of....free! It's open source.

As for host, you'd have to tell us what kind of hosting you'd be interested in. Shared, Virtual, dedicated, etc...
off the top of my head I can whip out cirtex.com, a company I've used a few times. But without more details I couldn't even begin to suggest anything that your specifically lookign for.
