Anyone recommend a good FTP prog?

Been using SmartFTP for the last few years, but it's going commercial only.

Not looking for bells and whistles (text editing / tea-making / golf buddy facilities), just has to be:

    For Windows,
    Quick,
    Stable,
Able to save a list of sites / passwords,
    Drag and drop,
    Free.

If it can cope with multiple windows open at once, that would also be helpful.

    Any recommendations would be super...

    Cheers! ben

Hint: ever noticed why Ben is looking to switch away from SmartFTP?

AceFTP Free is well worth a try.

If you use firefox, I would recommend using FireFTP plugin. It puts the ftp program right in your bowser and cuts down on open windows.

I haven't tried it with Firefox 3 however last time I tested it I noticed Firefox was occasionally using high resources when running the FTP plugin.

With FF3, it works like a charm. You can even leave it open forever, and just clik upload, and it reconnects auto and uploads. I use it in combination with EditPlus 3 for all my coding.

Haha.. Firefox already runs dangerously close to a GB.. The last thing I need is an FTP plugin!

People, thank you thank you... Will go download filezilla now.

I use filezilla and another program called fling.

With fling, you can set it up to sync a folder on your computer with a directory on the web via ftp, then you can just let it run in the background. You can then make changes, hit save and the changes are automatically uploaded. This saves me a lot of time!

Fling sounds like a good idea, but you know when you're set in your ways and work better for it?! It's kinda like that.

Thanks everyone - installed Filezilla, it's perfect.

Go for FileZilla (highly recommended) or try FireFTP, which is an addon for Firefox.
