Anyone recommend a decent laptop?

I'm thinking of getting a new laptop, my budget would probably be around the £400-£500 ($1000) region.

Can anyone recommend a decent make/model or deal that's on at the moment.

Yeap I would agree, go for Dell for no frills no thrills laptop that are value for money. If you are looking for something for fanciful of course there is always Apple, Fujitsu and Toshiba also made great and light laptops.

To be honest it be used for mainly work purposes so I don't need all the fancy things. Just need it for office/dreamweaver/photoshop and all of the other applications I use on a day to day basis.

I will take a look at dell's website to see if anything catches my eye.

    Thanks

Another one that comes into my mind, no frills no thrills but with everything built in would be Acer notebooks.

I think the one I have at home at the moment is an acer, seems to be good but could do with more memory I think.

What do you all think of windows vista? I haven't actually ever used it yet.

I have heard a lot of mixed reviews about vista, if I was to make a choice I would say I've heard more negative comments opposed to positive which puts me off upgrading.

You won't have much choice if you are buying a new laptop, all comes with Vista, I don't think they will load XP for you.

If you are not in a hurry, no point upgrading, computer technology changes too fast, a few months down the road, a new generation and faster and better processors at cheaper prices. Also by then more Vista bugs would be iron out.

I probably will end up doing that, at the moment my laptop is ok for what I need to do. Can just get a little slow when I try to multi-task with it

I don't think I will be paying that much on a laptop for what I need it for. Especially in this industry, today's brand new laptops only last a few months before they are outdated or in need of upgrades :D

I have DELL INSPIRON 1520, with 256 nividia card dedicated, 2gb ram, 1.5ghz c2d, and it works great! Even for gaming. RECOMMENDED.
