In terms of backlinks and on-page-optimization... I am very confident that my site is much better than my competitors (the top 3 sites)... so any reason why I can't get to the top? I am #1 on MSN... but have stayed #4 on google for quite some time (actually... 1 week+). Any idea or theory will be appreciated. You may consider getting more backlinks. Google's update will not be in effect for quite some months which will expressly effect your placement in their rankings. On another note, you may be confident that your site is better, but that is all relative to your own opinion. The algo's that Google's using may not think the same way, in fact, I know they aren't. MSN ranks sites much faster, I was ranked #1 for my keyword within a month (among 6,000,000 other search results), but Google takes time. I let it ride and I'm #4/#5/#6 for my keyword depending on which sandbox is out.
The reason I say my site is better is simple... Check the number 1 site, the page indexed contains nothing.... just an image and a few links... that guy even hide 2 "Supermodel Petra Nemcova" texts by making the font color the same as the bg color... like what you said, I am just hoping that it is going to rank better when G updates its BL counts.
Google most likely won't rank your site higher because it thinks it's better looking, but if you have the right keywords and enough backlinks, your Pagerank will be high enough to hopefully outrank your competitors. I'm getting close to outranking my competitors in my keywords, but I'm still working on getting my Pagerank 7. I'm stuck at a predicted PR6 right now. Best of luck to you.
