Anyone pumped to get a free Google phone?

I am really undecided on this. If you haven't heard Google is looking into offering free cellular phone service to people in exchange for them to view advertisments on their phones. While this sounds like a great way to save money, you have to keep in mind that Google is relying on you spending the money you usually spend on your cell phone bill, plus a little more, on the products and services that are going to be advertised. So, in the end... Google hopes that this free service will end up costing you more money.

I dunno, I have to think a little mroe before I really decide if I think this is good or bad... in the meantime feel free to share your opinions...

Here are some news stories on the topic:

Wouldn't the concept work a little bit more similar to adsense/adwords except on phone service? Essentially you probably buy your phone for at an expensive rate and then the advertisers end up paying for your service.

I think the phones would be free also, in one article I read it said that Motorolla and Texas Instruments are working on video phones that will cost under $10.

That's a lot of advertising revenue they would need to make up for their expenses. How intrusive would these ads be? I think I'd rather pay some money to avoid all the ads and have a fully functional phone that doesn't bombard me with ads.

Lol I would, I mean I barely use my cellphone as it is and pay 50 per month. Mostly it's like 1 call a month or not even. Sometimes I hit the total of 10!!
Better to save 50 and get it with ads :p

No thanks...I like my somewhat private life...I dont want google to make maps of places I go or have been....Im sure they will track everything you do just like they never delete any emails from their system...even tho we delete them on our end, they still have them.....

They can keep thier "free" phones.....I stoped using gooooogle as a search engine a long while ago....I use msn now.....
