I am not sure if I am posting this at the right place. I want to know if anyone here on DP owns a search engine (I am sure alot of u guys do). A search engine that displays search from other engines like Google, MSN, Yahoo etc. I have seen such scripts and really impressed with those. I want to know whether such a script is worth buying?. Also, is displaying of Google ads above the search results against TOS? If not, does this idea work in making some money? Please let me know. Thanx
A website only with the search engine purpose...i don't think so. I think there's some interest if you include more and different features.
Can you give us more information about the script that you have? Or if possible, point us to the site.
if you try to make money from a search engine site...its basically impossible now...why on earth why would anyone want to use ur search engine when you urself wudnt use it lol
I have a search engine that was a boxed script before I modified it heavily. It is very difficult to make it work and make money.... If I only had the engine to work on then I imagine I could make it work well, but I wouldn't try doing it unless you can devote alot of serious time to it..... I can tell that if I spent alot of time it would work very well, but I'm talking a real serious effort.... You would have to be on it constantly....
Hi Are you looking for search engine or directories? you can search or browse our directories for that.
It's possible make some money with such sites, the problem is the use of data from google, yahoo, msn. Grabbing the results from other search engines could violate their tos. Google will allow to use data freely for a determined number of search after you need to pay.
If you want your own crawler and listings then I would suggest Datapark engine. But it only runs on dedicated servers. I have some custom coded scripts which are far better then sphider and phpdig let me know if you are interested commercially.
Check this topic: http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=86244 Search engine scripts, and it makes over $200/month! :d
Cool I plan on having a new type of search engine if I ever get that far! I already own a domain for it www.AskCrow.com
You can make some money off of your own search engine. The two key factors are: Caching the latest x results and working every day to get those results indexed, and obviously, marketing. It's definately possible to get alot of organic traffic to your own search engine through getting cached results indexed and by marketing to the right niche or geographic area. j
I own musicarchives which is up but not really developed. I also own the domains sports, tv, and moviearchives.com. I'm thinking about recruiting people on the board to really make a serious go of it.
www.Golexa.com uses Google API www.Serpent.WS uses Yahoo API www.Lures.info uses Google free search, but I added my own little tweeks so it returns mostly fishing results.
