MSN algo seems to give lots of weights in anchor text. I tested one of my sites by giving lots of backlinks with **relevant anchor text** and <H1> tag. Wow! No. spot 1 in MSN after 9 days! Good traffic too No complaints but if this is going to be... I'd just scrape link exchange and use more ads. in the coop. Can anyone compile a FAQ showing members how to legally increase weights?
MSN has been a great friend to me lately as well. Especially since when you to to MSN.com, they have begun using the beta search engine.
Looks like I'll have to roll out that beta (nichedynamics.com) sooner than planned Actually, were it not for the coop here, a lot of ppl would not be in such a good position on MSN (this includes me).. the question though - if it's this easy to influence results on MSN, how long is it going to last ? Cheers JL
Are the H1, H2, etc. tags useful in SEO? I don't even use it. What if you just use generic headers in a table?
David, see here for a test: http://www.edsolutions.ca/seo-google-test-results.html Bit outdated now but shows you which ones are important...
My ranks at MSN are incredible, I am #1 for a keyword I was targeting, with almost 23 million results. All my other keywords are top 10 there. However, the traffic I get is about 1% of what Google sends me.
msn could generate some traffic if the keywords have a reasonable popularity (# of times searched). I used to get about less than 10 visitors from msn a day. now I get about 200 from msn.
High traffic via Google is due to massive users. To get good traffic (as good as in Google) via MSN, we need to pick the right keywords. Maybe I'm a bit lucky, because I have almost equal amount of traffic that I get from Google for certain keywords. Is there a traffic estimation report for keywords in MSN? Looks like a great business opportunity to sell such reports, if MSN continues its domination plan
Yes, I'll be needing beta testers and you're welcome to participate. Once it's ready to go, I'll be emailing those ppl who've registered at nichedynamics.com, though I was joking about the early rollout Cheers, JL
I am ranking well for a new site (a few weeks old) somewhere around 2, out of a couple of mil - that kind of level, Very low traffic levels though.
I am getting good results with MSN (#1 for my main keyword) almost without any help from anchor text (just a few backlinks from forums). At the same time the site ranks nowhere (top 250) with Google for the same keyword phrase. My explanation on that is that MSN is giving more weight to optimization than Google does.
Bill Gates rules (never thought I would say that) I am getting awesome results for a 1 month old site that seems to be sandboxed in Google and nowhere in Yahoo. Its not just link text. I have some #1s that I probably don't have any link text for. The one page has a really high keyword density (just over 10%).
Same thing here.... top 10 for most of my targeted keywords (and a lot that I haven't targeted for)... the msnbot has been very bust lately... Spider visits for my forums for the past 36 hours; Google visits: 242 | MSN visits: 808 | Yahoo visits: 158 Oddly enough I'm also seeing about 20% referrring traffic from MSN compared to ~10% from G.
Same here but it is understandable because the masses are still using Google. We have to the word out to the world that MSN is the best.
I just built my new site last fortnight (the one in my signature). It went live on the 14th of January, and I started submitting to search engines and directories on the 17th or so. Yesterday, I saw some traffic from search engines in my stats, so I checked "New Zealand Photography" on MSN and I have been ranked #2. I love MSN!! I haven't optimised any of the pages for any specific keywords, but have "New Zealand Photography" in the anchor text in all back-links (only around 200 so far, as I have just started promoting the site), in the title and a H1 tag on the home page. Google on the other hand will probably chuck my site in the sandbox for a few months. I don't get it. On one hand, they promise "fresh results" and on the other hand, they provide those "fresh results" from sites that are at least a few months old. What about fresh content from new websites?? Having said that, I do know that I won't get as much traffic from MSN's SERPs as I would get from Google, once I get ranked of course. So, I will continue working on my BLs to please Google!
