Well, I haven't noticed any unusual caching of my site's pages. Google has been visiting my main site's home page every 1-2 days and doing a full-on cache every two weeks during the weekend. This pattern's been the same for quite a while now, and Google went through my entire site (including new pages) over the weekend. But, in my case this is normal! Having said that, one of the keywords I am working on has been a constant #56 for a few weeks now (And bugging me ). Since last fortnight, it had been shuttling to #78 (for like half a day or so) and then back to the usual #56. Anyway, since yesterday it's been at #28 and I think this is the new "stable" rank for it as it hasn't shuttled back to #56. So, there's definitely something going on ...... something's changed in the last 48 hours or so.
another one of my keywords just jumped another 20 places (as mentioned in my last post after being static for about a month and a half) that make it a jump of about 60 place in about 1 , 2 days at most
Wow! I wish all my keywords jump to #3! Hey, the page that is now appearing at #3 ..... Is this a fairly new page?
Our site has also been hit hard the last two days. Probably yet another backlink update this thur/fri - but who knows what G is doing after that, lol.
Lots of googlebot activity and more indexed pages to boot. My rankings are up too but I think it has to do more with the coop ad network and an active linking campaign.
google took a breaks for a day, and now back again with a vengence..... I wonder whats coming next...............................................
Well, the last "official update" was around three months ago, so since your page is only a couple of months old, that means that it wouldn't have been ranked during the last update. So, maybe G's finally doing a PR update? It's a pretty huge index and a full update could take as much as a couple of days, but I can't really think of any other reason why you would jump from #66 to #3! One of my sites were set-up after the last update and I am hoping that G's going to be as generous to that site as well.
I too have been hit hard by Google the last few days. It has crawled deeper than ever before. I'm hoping to see a huge jump in rankings as well as a PR and backlink update.
Google has been going nuts on my sites as well. I'm not holding my breath for a pr update though. I guess I just like oxygen too much
It wouldn't matter as search engine positions are updated all the time. Pagerank updates dont affect the SERP's. They only tell us the value of the page in the google toolbar.
Pr don't affect SERPs? Then, what does????? When I say PR update, I am not talking about the toolbar update, I am talking about the actual PR being used by Google for the SERPs. Google's SERPs are based on PR and PR has got quite a high rating in calculating rankings. There are other factors involved as well, which affect minor changes in SERPs pretty much on a continuous basis, but PR updates (which don't happen very often) can affect SERPs quite a bit.
Sorry, but not true It's included in the overall calculation but not so much weight. There are many sites with PR0 beating other sites with high PR in the top ten positions for a particular keyword/phrase.
I agree! TLDTrader: We don't know what the real PR is .... moreover, it's real easy for a site with a high PR to get a high ranking without getting "everything right", but for a site with a lower PR to be up there, the pages must be optimised for that particular keyword. Ex: A directory with a high PR might just mention a keyword a couple of times on one of it's pages and in the title tag and that page will appear in the top 10 results for that keyword even if the keyword is not related to the site at all, beating the "real" sites related to that keyword. This does, unfortunately produce results biased towards BIGGER sites which is why Yahoo have started filtering out directories from their search results (as per another thread on this forum). I'll see if I can find it.
Didn't it occur to you that IBLs are more important than PR when it comes to SERPs Not that PR, toolbar/public/or whatever kind of PR, is irrelevant. It's just that if you say that we don't know the real PR, there's more reason for us not to worry much about it. So let us concentrate more on getting quality IBLs. If you deserve a PR increase, then it should come naturally. If you were able to obtain many IBLs using your chosen anchor text, it will surely help more in the SERPs.
Your comment is true by definition of PR ..... Pr is calculated on the basis of the BLs and the PR of the pages with the BLs. It is therefore, impossible to have a high PR without BLs! I was mainly contesting the statement that "PR does not affect SERPs". Well, it does ...... as do lots of other factors.
I also don't agree that "Pagerank updates dont affect the SERP's" But it is only one factor among the many. I know that many will not agree with this statement of yours: "Google's SERPs are based on PR and PR has got quite a high rating in calculating rankings". That's why I pointed it out Regards.
