Hello, I have noticed that I have different ranks for a few sites when I search on google.com from different country IP's I mean huge difference..Especially from US IP's...like 90th position in US versus 3-4th on other countries...both queries made on google.com..and is not the first time this happens to a few sites of mine Anyone noticed this? Anyone doing these searches for their sites? I am curious if anyone noticed this or is just me Thanks
I think it's true - even on Alexa, you can see your ranking based on the top 5 countries. I'm guessing Google & others works that way, too.
the problem is that I was ranking high in US ..like I am doing now when searching from other countries' IP's So is not like I was always on page 9 in US searches...that is my problem Thanks
It's not an anomaly - it's standard practice. Google and most search engines Geo-target their results. If you want to increase rankings within a certain country, you need to have country-specific content, and it helps to have a separate domain (relevant to that country's standard top level domains) with your site hosted on a server there, along with local contact information for the region you're targeting.
I never said is an anomaly And I have done all you said and more than that..and the Geo-targetation was good for these sites until 3 days ago.. Thanks for answering me
Well its been there for long. Rather than taking hosting in that country you can just get backlinks from the countries you want to rank in. It will automatically move your domain up in SERP. e.g if you want to rank high in australia get backlinks from com.au sites, see the difference.
I think your backlinks from site hosted on other countries affect your rankings. For example you have good links in US so it means you'll get better rankings in US.
hey guys thanks for the replies please read carefully my post: this wasn't a problem until 3 days ago. I lost ranks in US - on google.com - 3-4 days ago, after having top positions for more than 3-4 months. And lost ranking means page 9...not on second or third page. I thought is a problem with a Datacenter or something and I was curious if anyone else noticed this in the last days.
Google's datacenters individually refresh data after every X period. This could be a data refresh. you might get the position back soon.
We have the same problem. I think google changed the way they rank websites for each country. I think it doesn't have big influence anymore where the site is hosted. It may really depend where the "BIG" links come from. Please test your query in the US with allinanchor:keyword Does your site rank at the same position as before the update with this query ?
While the internet is global, there are still regional differences. Search engines would be remiss to not account for that in their search algorithms. I'm sure each regional search page is calculated differently according to where your visitors and links are coming from.
Yep, they've always done it... maybe OP stems from the fact that they're either getting better at it or placing more emphesis on it?
