Hi all, I want to create social video sharing site – like youtube. I’m looking for free CMS for this and found several (phpmotion, clipbucket and many more). All these CMS require to have video converting scripts running on a server (ffmpeg, mencoder, and flvtool2) – these are scripts that shared hosting don’t allow to execute. I’m looking for a video sharing CMS which doesn;’t require these scripts. Anyone can recommend? Thanks, Paul
Actually there was a shared hosting that allowed this - it's called Apthost Google apthost, and you will be able to host a script like phpmotion (I have in the past) Cheers Paul
you are using the word free in the same paragraph as video sharing site. i think that might be your issue. Video sharing sites use a lot of resources and the programs are complicated. But you can run Joomla which is free and hwd videoshare which is free. You can run this configuration on a lot of hosts with out the ability of people to upload from the front end but they can upload from the back end(or ftp). Also on the front end people can post links and it will embed videos for you. this is a list of supported hosts according to them: http://documentation.hwdmediashare.co.uk/wiki/HwdVideoShare_Supported_Hosts I would sort through the list and ask a lot of questions before buying, the programs needed are resource hogs and are mostly only available on dedicated servers or vps. Which are not cheap. If you can get the proper configuration then your users should be able to upload from the front end.
Take a look at my site Yopyyop. It is a clipbucket script, that is free, but it needs a lot more money to be put in there for some plugins. I spend 7$/ month for hosting and domain. Unlimited bandwidth and server space. And also you will need to spend some money on video upload (and for that I advise you to take a look at videoswiper)
Hi. Blaky: May I know how big is the (gig?)size of your yopyyop website? How many monthly bandwidth will your site consume? I like to know some info about your site, so that i can estimate and decide what kind of hosting I need if I build a similar site using clipbucket. Is that a video streaming site, so that you only host a video link, rather than the whole video uploaded to your site, this will make a big difference, video streaming link does not use big bandwidth, while the physical video uploading to your site can consume big bandwidth. Thanks very much in advance.
basically without ffmpeg there is no way to convert a video into flv format which is then able to play on web in a flv player just like youtube so we already know that nearly most of hosting firms allowing ffmpeg on their servers by installing it and if you need a cheap similar type of cms based site developed then simply contact me via private message as we have full expertise to develop video sites based upon cms and also can guide you regarding hosting services too.
If you are trying to run videos from your site without these tools then it is impossible to do that.... You should need a good hosting to run a video site.... Else you can simply have an html and use youtube embed code ... Because if your video (in whatever format it is) will exceed maximum of 20MB in size, it won't load many times when you want to play it from your site..... Regards!
Incase if you have still not made up your mind - http://www.ngcoders.com/downloads/misc/vcompare/ I recommend investing in a paid script.
so i went over and purchased a hosting plan at cirtexhosting.com - they are HUGE DISAPPOINTMENT! - don't ever pay them a dime. their support is slower than turtles, they are not very helpful. I'm usually don't want to hurt someone's business, but here, I just want to save you guys the trouble. I also purchased a the clipshare script + installation service - they are also extremely slow in doing their job - took them 5 days to install the script. @ngcoders - that's a great list! thanks a lot.
