What a load of rubbish, I know of some very good and well run directories that use free templates.

Why do we bother sponsoring themes if that’s the impression people have about directories that use them?

    Thanks Brian

    Brian:

You know better as u have more experience but as far as i know people that dont invest time or money to make a unique design for their directory wont spent time or money to maintain or promote it
    am i wrong?

Try and get your facts right scooby, what was supported by the wayback machine in this case was the fact that botw are bullshitters in that they claim to have been a directory since 1994 when they weren't. There's no contest as to who had that design first is there. I've made it clear (despite you conceding that its none of your business) that we were impressed with their clean design and decided we wanted one similar.

Anyway, without degrading what was already a pathetic and duplicate thread I've stated my case and if you don't like it, tough.

Themes? Not sure what you're on about, maybe you mean those that pay into the directory to keep it running? Anyway, the general impression of directories is one of high status and held by website owners only, and those are a tiny tiny minority, which only matters to the quick buck crew.

It's very sad when people exist only to extract money and deliver little in return, and it pretty much highlights the bad side of the web. The web was once a great place of invention, but that's lost now, and it's all about pretending to be something, something that few achieve.

If you want to be rich - then don't start a directory.

sorry, what is your definition of quality directory?
no one here will give you green rep., you know?
i just know that this guy is absolutely foolish if he/she copied someone's design but deny the ownership.

Well I looked at them both and IMHO they are similar but not the same...
Even if they were exactly the same, so what...

Some people just have too much time on their hands and look to stir the big black pot.

JamieG, your site appears to be doing well... Congrats and best of luck with it.

I noticed quite a while ago and don't know how to say about it. Similarity can exist however my opinion or suggestion is: the owner can have a better design to avoid any accusation.

Similar and I am not surprised.

But did everyone know that even DMOZ copied its structure too from USENET.

Your right pctec, they are both similar in design and I've never questioned that, in fact quite openly told people why. Its actually a compliment to the designers of both botw for the having what we though was a fantastic clean design, and to our designers for making sure we had the same impact (which we clearly have, hence the comparisons) but without actually being identical.

The thing about forums is that people love to spend time trying to put down others, guess its have a go at Jamie day today.

As for the site doing well, its work under progress pctec, but thanks for the kind words. :)

@xc06; we're not changing the anything just to please one or two muppets on here. If we'd copied it exactly I'd understand, but we never its as simple as that, anyone who has a problem with that will just have to live with it.
