Hi there, I am in the beginning stages of starting a small charity of softs. IN a sense, I plan to have a monthly raffel and donate a planned 50% to a different charity every month, 25% to the winner of the raffel, and to keep 25% to cover costs and expenses as well as to be paid for my time. So, first off, is this legal anywhere in the world? And secondly, besides getting registered to have raffels with my local province, would I need to have any national or international raffels.
Well in NH gambling is illegal but a couple of casinos have oped up so I asked around and found out that as long as they donate upto 33% than it's a legit organization. So you would need to go to your state capital or there website and find out the specific laws for your state.
IANAL, but I believe the laws vary widely from state to state here in the US. That's why you sometimes see contests that are open to everyone but residents of Florida and Arizona (for example). You have to determine which state the contest is being run in, and find out which laws apply to you.
Thanks for the replies, I was thinking of starting an online thing that could have potentially raised an absolute crap load of money for charities, but doing this way seems to have too many legalities to it so I am back to the drawing board on how to go about it.
