Anyone know how to dance with google?

OK, so I understand what the "google dance" is. Sort of. But, what does it mean, longer term? One of my sites ranks #8 for one of our best converting keywords. Last week it was at #2, but only for a short time period.

I just did that google datacenter tool on the keyword, and 1/2 show us at #8 and half at #2. There is a huge difference in our traffic when we are #2!

IP: 72.14.205.99 shows us at #8

IP: 72.14.205.104 shows us at #8

IP: 72.14.205.107 shows us at #8

    IP: 72.14.209.99 shows at #2

    IP: 72.14.209.104 shows at #2

    IP: 72.14.209.107 shows at #2

My question, are any of the datacenters the "future" ranking? ie...in a few days will we be #2 for that term? thanks!

I know how to dance with Google but Google does not want to dance with me. This is the problem with most of us.

Funny. But seriously, does anyone know what the different results mean?

It means that the changes haven't been completed across all Datacenters. Did your site come from #8 or #2. if you were previously at #8, and see yourself at #2 on some DC's, then there is a good chance that you are moving up in the rankings. Just keep doing what you're doing.

Speaking from my own experience, my site fluctuates upwards.

Yes, we were at #6-#8 forever. An actual jump to #2 would be huge. Thanks!!!

Well if you have been working on that keyword then it's very likely.

There's no such thing as a Google dance anymore, SERPS can and do change every couple of days. It's simply not worth worrying about a gain or drop of 3/4 positions.

The results that you're seeing on the different IPs are becase changes don't propageate across all datacentres at the same time, and it's very very unlikely that you'll ever have a site at the same position on all DCs at any point in time.

Woop Woop - we have a winner. There is no Google Dance and longer - it is the age of 'everflux' as data refreshes are daily (or so) these days

Absolutely right, check the results returned daily, if you have a keayword with a large # or results like mine (400,000,000 or so) that number will fluctuate forever now.

Lesser keywords with results like 1,400,000 or so seem to be more stable and change much less frequently.

This is good if you do active link building, gains can be realized quite quickly these days, no more waiting for the dance. If you think, ok good, i'll stay at #2 for a month i dont need to link build for a while you will find yourself losing ground.

    It's good and it's bad.
