It seems no matter what sites I submit to DMOZ and no matter how long I wait my sites never seem to be added to the DMOZ directory. The only two sites I have had added to DMOZ were added back in 2004 and I have placed submissions to have a number of my other sites added all through 2005 and 2006 and none of them have been added... However I was fortunate enough to know the DMOZ editor for one of the categories that one of my sites was listed in and was able to have their edit that listing, but I only wish that I knew like some sort of global DMOZ editor so that I could get my other submissions that I have made months and years ago pushed through. So what do you have to do these days to get your site added? Do you have to pay someone off or something?
Just read through some of the threads in this category and you'll see the hundreds of theories and ideas that abound.
The someones are called "senior" DMOZ editors. You pay for their "SEO" expertize even if they have none and magically your site gets listed in matter of days for no apparent reason.
Yes i do know an editor. And he/she (i'm not stating) is actually, contrary to belief, a nice person.
ohhh dear and here comes the dmoz is evil conspiracy theories... everyones gotta wait. sucks...but that's how it is..
Not everyone. Those who employ DMOZ editors for "SEO" can get their sites listed with no problem, read the DMOZ guideline.
Well my sites fit within the DMOZ guidelines, so I don't think that is the issue. There are not MFA site's or anything like that. Anyway how would I go about finding one of these "SEO" experts so I can "hire" them for some simple consultancy work? I sure would like to speak one of these people (incase any are reading contact me via DP PM is always a good way to contact me).
There are simply far too many sites waiting there. Just yesterday I approved ~20 sites waiting from 2003.
Does the category you want to post in have an editor? Sometimes it takes longer if it doesn't as the editors must log in to see they have new sites waiting to go on!
My cateogry does have an editor, but I have also applied to be an editor of a category of a small category with no editor before and I was rejected. That was back in 2005 - I have since pretty much given up on DMOZ... Maybe I'll apply to be an editor again soon.
I have given up on dmoz. Submitted over a year ago. Have applied to be editor 2 different times for catagories without editors and was turned down both times.
Gworld, someone was on here yesterday looking for a business partner for an new SEO company and guess what two of their team do? Edit DMOZ! It was clearly stated on the post so its not a evil conspiracy theory as iBold suggested.
There is also already someone posted in this thread, looking for "SEO experts" that are DMOZ editors, so I am sure their new business will be successful. I have also got couple of PM from people looking to buy DMOZ listings, so tell them to contact me and I can forward the PMs to them since I do not sell DMOZ listings.
So why are they turning down so many well equipped voluntary editorial applicants? ... just wondering
All jokes aside and I may be way off base but dmoz reminds me of a link-farm... a rather sophisticated link farm. I do a lot of online research and use as many search engines as I need to find answers, never once have I had a quality result with dmoz .... come to think of it, I haven't had any results with dmoz ! What's the big deal? Ok I admit it - I don't really know what a link farm is exactly, but all the same, dmoz is practically useless. It's good for one thing admittedly - getting one paltry link back to your site - big deal, it aint worth the hassle. There's many more excellent quality content driven directories out there for everyone & everything. BURTA - methinks you're suffering from unrequitted love - dump them once & for all
Yeah well - I (the BIG I AM) edits Wakipedia and I carnt even spell and they aint chucked me orf yet And they havs mich batter runking warth goggle! Scuse my numbersome replies to this 'ere thred but I cans only think in small short bursts (translation shall be provided upon request - I was just trying to cash in on the misspelling legend _ SEO IS THE GOD OF THE NET & we must never forget )
