Between the mods and a lack of good info, Sitepoint sucks.

Yeah, try big-boards.com. I go there now and then for any new boards that may have come up on the list.

I'd strongly suggest the following forums to anyone who is planning to focus on marketing a particular product or service:

    http://forums.digitalpoint.com
    http://freeadvertisingforum.com
    http://www.sitepoint.com/marketplace
    http://www.v7n.com/forums/
    http://www.nettrafficchat.com/

And of course it all depends on what you are actually advertising! Every niche has its audience and respectively forums and social networks where people discuss topics related to that niche. If the OP shares what he wants to promote then it would be really easy for the DP members to recommend him the proper forum or network.

As far as I got it, he is planning to drive some traffic from such forums. But the question is, will this traffic be niche oriented, i.e. people that are searching for what he's offering?

If you mix it up around sitepoint, digitalpoint, and warrior forum you should get a good mix.

If you're thinking about advertising some product or site, most of the big forums will ban you 1-3 days tops. Maybe even 5 minutes after posting your advertisement. Worst of all, you'll never be able to join the forum again. But anyways, if you want to still give it a try simple enter in google "Top Forums".
There should be a site that will show you forums with like thousands and thousands of people online at a time.
    Good luck,

Oh, by the way. If you aren't looking for targeted traffic, PM me. I will sell you my ebook that is gauranteed to make get you thousands and thousands of unique visitors a week. It's a dirty little black hat trick no one wants you to know about. Anyways, If you're not interested i still wish you the best of luck.
