Hi guys I was wondering, i read somewhere that you can compress some files down to 10 percent or possibly less of the original file size using software. So in saying this, would a file in megabytes being compressed down and converted to FLV, Q1. would you guys know if a (for example) 5 mb video file size would be shrunk down to a small kb sized FLV and be able to be shown online without using up too much bandwidth?(based on the above info of 10 percent) Q2. And if someone had several videos being shown on a site, for example 25 and all shrunk down to the smaller size FLV would you say that 1000gb in bandwidth per month would be enough to run a members only video site and not excessive as far as using up bandwidth? Well, Thanks for the help guys I appreciate your help frenzy
It's possible to shrink down video filesizes. Since FLV have lesser file size than AVI/MPG. But you'll sacrifice the quality of the video.
Ans Q1 : Yes, you can shrink video to smaller size by converting it to flv format.Smaller size = smaller bandwith Ans Q2 : I assume each video is 5MB. 25 chunk x 5 MB = 125 MB. 125 MB ~= 0.12 GB 1000 GB bandwith - 1GB (loading html, graphic, css, javascript, etc.. ) ~= 999GB 999 GB bandwith / 0.12 GB ~= 8325 So, if your traffic (user view a video) below than 8325, then you can host a video site.If not, you might better get more bandwith
the smallest filesize with highest quality format is H24, and that should beable to be streamed. It's a quicktime supported format and I'm sure you'd find it was better filesize-wise than MPG or AVI.
