Over at seomoz Rand mentions about.com and using it to dominate serps. Does anyone know much about getting stuff onto about.com? I have read the bit about being an expert writer for them but thats not very useful for an seo.
What I meant was that they will take you on as an expert writer and you choose your topic and have to write loads of stuff about it every week and they pay you $1000 per month approx. If I was a writer this would be great but I don't have time to do this because I'm too busy on my sites. Edit: Figured it out......find the category most relevant to your site and email the editor.
They have a limited number of "topics." So you may not even have a topic to apply for. Many of the links are dead. Most of the editors haven't updated their page since 1998. If anything, about.com USED to dominate SERPs. Two, three years ago, even. Recently, I find that WIKI pages weigh a lot more. The "about.com" page in my niche isn't even in the top 200 websites, which is well deserved, because it's abominable. The equivalent wiki page does a lot better.
It does still appear, but according to my personal observations and experience, it's been significantly downgraded. This, I consider a good thing.
Or, if you have money and are looking for the 'quick & easy' you can simply purchase a link on their site. I believe they have inventory over at Text-Link-Ads.com
Yes, haha, that's what they WANT you to do. They have no interest in making sure their editors are still breathing. They have an interest in their editors NOT breathing!
