Do they offer VPS? I did not see that option on their homepage... Can someone suggest a good VPS provider?
check this out, one DP user just got hit by hostgotar http://forums.digitalpoint.com/showthread.php?t=77510
Is the shared SSL certificate included in the cost? Are there any negative aspects of using the shared SSL?
I think you'll find similar reviews at WHT. I do know that have one of the most lucrative affiliate programs out there. If the mods would let me I would provide an example of an affiliate link for you to 'see'
Is there anyone else that evens attempts to offer the same features as hostgator's unlimited domain account with Cpanel and Fantastico for $9.95?
I've found other with similar deals but they all require a setup fee (usually $30) if you're doing less than a 6 month plan.
thehoff what is most bandwidth you have every been able to get out of the small shared accounts? I had another one suspended last night, pretty much every one of my shared accounts, once it starts getting over 20 gig bandwidth it runs into some type of "problem"
Well I've been with them now for a couple of weeks, and I am quite pleased. Thanks for the input everyone!
Hostgator is fine with small sites, but if you start to get lots of traffic and the cpu usage goes up they are very rude, this happend to me twice, they never made any attempt to contact me and the worse part is I had multiple sites with them and instead of just shutting the one site with the high usage down they shut them all down. I talked with them on the phone and they told me that if i ever went over the cpu usage again that they would contact me before shutting my website down to see if I wanted to upgrade and a week later I went over the limit and they never called so I moved all my sites the next day and will never do business with them again or refer anyone else to them. I was on a $75.00 a month plan and feel like I was ripped off.
I'll just be happy if I can ever get to the point where I use enough bandwidth/cpu to be shut down!!!!
That's what I also felt like when it was shut down But, that is till you realize that the site is DOWN! Anyway, Justin, nice meeting u here again
I moved to them from SiteGround (i actually have a year-prepaid account there still) as i found I: dont need 500GB of bandwidth for my new sites want unlimited multisites want to pay as i go I am with them for about a week and they've been great including extra services I needed. So THUMBS UP!!!
Well this is a great approach - the best a host did with overresourced sites I've ever heard. SiteGround for instance shoots the accounts down right away and LunarPages tell you in an email but let the site running some time still.
Guys this is what scared me too - i moved from 1st host's cPanel to 2nd host's cPanel. The first one (SiteGround) did not support cPanel Backup/Restore feature so i exported my DBs via phpMyAdmin (default form settings, just > into file + compression). I did this backwards at the other host's (HostGator) but then i realized it supported the B/R feature, so i could actulally had my .SQL filel kicked off into databases with this feature. Scary imagining, simple finally. Just watch you still have data backed up somewhere if something should go wrong...
This might be true. However, HostGator with the unlimited multisites is MORE THAN PERFECT for start-up sites!!!
