Hello, Anyone heard of compete.com and the shapshot feature of it, does it like alexa require users to install toolbar and browse and gather its stats from toolbar alone to provide the traffic stats or it collects it from some other sources? Thanks
there's a toolbar and you can add a script like google analytics to your site so the numbers are more accurate
But does it get stats of traffic for those members only with their toolbar installed like alexa does?
Yes, I've known about Compete.com for a while. I use Compete.com, Ranking.com, and Alexa.com together, but the results are still not very accurate.
I've used compete.. but again don't find the results very accurate. If you want to know your traffic, do yourself a favor and stick with analytics. It is the #1 , and the only free software to give you such an indepth view into your traffic!
Right but there are noobs that bother me on yahoo saying on your site is not even in compete.com and i try to explain it does not give accurate results but they say you are lieing and it makes me wanna bash their head or own them in a game of Call of duty.
Unfortunately you can't get a view of all your competitors' traffic through analytics! I love the comparison charts on compete.com though. Just to see some trends on bigger sites.
In firefox theres a plugin to make snapshots on the search results of google, so there not the only ones to do it.
I don't think so. From their website: http://www.compete.com/help#snp3 Personally I find their traffic info more accurate than Alexa info.

Note the words in bold. Looks same to me like Alexa users using alexa toolbars.
Sometimes, when you ask for info they don't have, you get this message. Suggests it's similar to Alexa and Ranking in that it requires surfers to install things to generate their stats.
im using a ff plugin called searchstatus and its most recent update threw in the compete ranking. Its an alexa clone.
