I'm very new to SEO, and I was wondering what you all think of this site. It's a business directory, but I've only found one of my company's competitors listed when I search.
It uses javascript for the links to sites. So links there won't count as IBL's. Unless it has a lot of taffic - which I doubt - then imho it's not worth the cost of adding your site. To search for something you have to enter both a product and a location - so for an internet based business where location is almost irrelevant, an entry on the site is pointless.
And it isn't cheap for the benefits you might get. This is a strategy with these type of paid business listings. List the top company for every industry you possibly can. Top meaning the first result for the major keywords. Then when all those below them see their competition "paid" the fee, you rush right in to do the same. The whole time they never actually paid anything.
that strategy is one I've come across before, but normally I'd expect some kind of perceived benefit from listing in the dierctory. I just don't see any benefit to being in this dierctory - perceived or otherwise.
The only benifit to this directory is to the directory company. They get about £90 for each fool they sign up, and they are very persistant with their letters. Read (http://sedgefield.blogdrive.com/archive/143.html) this blog entry to see my opinion, plus a brief description of the other little scam he's running. It is all similar to the "Data Protection Register" scam. People will not use the "Business Internet Directory" - they will use Google! (For some reason the forum will not publish the link neatly - I'm sorry)
I was doing a search of Business Internet Directory as I received a letter from them this morning. They are using much the same format, but now call it 'Your Business Category' They say they are updating their directory in my area, and ask for further details which are my business (which is classed as Incomplete Data) and Telephone (the same again). They ask me to call 0870 850 2891 ( with a note at the bottom of the page saying calls cost 10p per minute on BT landlines) They also ask you to call them anyway if you do not want to be contacted again. The back of the letter is printed with a 34 point Terms of business, but nowhere in the terms does it state about costs etc,. I'm quite capable of marketing my own business without paying out money to 'Junk mailers' I'm glad I checked on the net and found your forum. BOE
Phew 692 days ago someone made the OP But for the last 691 days they seem to have been doing well http://www.businessinternetdirectory.com/
