Google annouced that they bought Metaweb - a company that maintains an open database of things in the world. Was reading its something about it and it does sound interesting to me. Anyone any thoughts on that?
Interesting. Makes sense since Google is always pushing quality content, and what better way then to have a network that helps syndicate this content, then rank it and distribute it according to relevancy. Looks like the big players will only get stronger from this, while the new bloggers will have an uphill climb.
Just heard about that company, it will be more interesting if the database of things this company have is comparable to wikipedia..
Metaweb is a Us based company and now acquired by the Google. It is developing freebase that is open and shared database for of the worlds knowledge. It's a real world database and Google is now giving preferences to the real time searches.
My understanding is that it will be a direct competitor to wikipedia. I've not in favour of thisas google are purely out tomake money nomatter what. At present wikipedia is a completely not for profit organisation. It's like stealing money from a charity, but it's a free market and no one can stop googlefrom doing it.
