These products have large gravity and high total $/sale. I want a piece of the action and I normally build content sites for long term SEO traffic. Does anyone else operate in this way in this niche? Do you go for a sub-niche e.g. "female dwarfs who want to build arm muscles" Or is it possible to rank with a more general "fitness" site? I thought I'd ask before I take the plunge. thanks
I think like with anything else, specificity will bring you better results. But you can make your home site a general weight loss site and then have sub niche pages for more specific KW such as "lose belly fat."
Of course, it's possible (in the long term) to rank for "general" terms, but the question is: "Is the effort worth it?" Do you think people, who rank for "lose weight" are making tons of money? They are certainly getting huge traffic, but it doesn't mean that it's converting. Quality over quantity. So as Zibblu said, specificity is what you need in any niche and any business.
Can vouch for that. I am number 1 or 2 for "lose weight quickly" but it certainly doesn't make me any money as the term is far too generic and is not anywhere in the buying cycle. Definitely there is a lot of money in the fitness niche and the best way is to have people late in the buying cycle and building up a community whether within blog comments or in a forum atmosphere.
