My boss forwarded me an email stating that they are an optimization specialist with Google AdWords and they want ot help optimize our account.

Just seems fishy to me and I was under the impression that Google doesn't do this. Any thoughts?

They do...but I would advise against letting them "optimize" your account. I've never seen that work well and have tried numerous times.

Do they mean optimise your profits or their earnings!

The two are not always the same :)

We took over an account that Google had optimised for a client, and cut their cost per click by over 80% in a week.

It's useful to have somebody you can ask things from time to time, but I wouldn't recommend that you let them touch your account...

Yes... they do provide optimization facility. But they will only suggest optimization tips or required changes. It depends upon you whether you want to use those suggestions/changes. There is no compulsion.

I would definately not trust anybody from Google adwords - I still use Google ads but it really is a rip off. The same goes for Yahoo but they are too clueless to know what they are talking about most of the time, so they are relatively harmless.

I have just been trying to do some research about the effectiveness of my keywords and the impressions they get. I must agree that Google appears to be only interested in maximising its profit - which is fair enough - but to do so by misleading its customers. The inaccurate information it gives out is unacceptable.

I have one keyword with a quality score of 9/10 and a maximum cpc of 25 Eurocents. It has a CTR of 7.02% and an average cpc of 13 cents - way,way below my maximum bid.

Now I think that those are all good figures but what does Google say - They are not showing my ad based on this particular keyword "based on my budget"

The budget required to get the ad on the first page, says Google is 0.02cents as against my bid of 0.25

What Google is doing of course is showing my ad for keywords where I am having to pay well over 20 cents or even 30 cents and deliberately ignoring the keywords where I could get the ad displayed much cheaper.

What a fiddle and they are prepared to lie in their teeth to justify it.

Anyone who contacts you saying that they work for Google is lying. Google gives certification to only a hand full of companies to work with them. If the company is stating to be Google Certified make sure they can send you proof off of a google website.

No they are not. Google has people on staff that contact customers to "optimize" their account(s).
