I tried reviewing their terms online and didn't find anything useful. I sent them an inquiry with no reply.

Anyone know if you can have a domain such as coolmacintosh.com or anyting with macintosh without getting into trouble with apple?

    Thanks

    I've just read http://www.apple.com/legal/trademark/guidelinesfor3rdparties.html

Reading this: you won't get away with coolmacintosh. It would only be viable if your site was non comercial, nothing to do with computers, computer systems, or operating software. And the domain was something like charliemacintosh i.e. your name, or something totally random away from stuff mentioned above.

Just think how long the document would be if they covered every eventuallity? They talk about generic use of the names and takeoffs of their names.

My opinion is they might not be happy if you do that without their consent.

There are people out there who would just reg the name and see what happens, but you here of nasty letters occasionally.

They have a phone number on the doc. Why not phone them

Macintosh is a registered trademark of Apple. Any use of it in a domain name for a site that was computer related would be infringement - without their permission.

There are also other trademarks on Macintosh for non-computer categories so even if the usage wasn't computer related, you would need to make sure you weren't infringing upon their usage class.
