    it happened to me!

    1) what did you do wrong?

It was because changes permalinks structure of my wordpress blog without any 301 redirect!

    2) what was the penalty?

My site was no where on google! :)

    3) what did you do to fix it?

Nothing, just fix the things, that you think that might have caused you the penalty, and than wait.......

    4) did you request a reinclusion via webmaster tools?

Yes, I actually submitted site and sitemap, again and again!

    5) how long did it take to return?

    around one month!

    6) anyother helpful information you can add?

nothing, just stay away from duplicate content and use proper 301 redireect while moving your pages and posts!

i have read in one website what to do when your website is deindexed from google there is only one chance of getting indexed is that you have to change the content on your website and resubmit to google websmaster and email them what is wrong in your website

My site was penalized, I abandoned it for a while and started from scratch after 6 months. Now the rankings are ok again.

    hey pcz ...
you said you started from scratch? and now the rankings are ok again?
do you mean the original site with the penalty got its ranking back?
or the new site is ranking good?

If the penalized site is a new one, start with a new domain. If it has been up for a while, then do some whitehat SEO and it will go up in SERPs.

It happened to me once because I interlinked some of my websites.
    It lasted 1 year.
I submitted several re-inclusion requests after removing that link scheme, but there was no reply to any of them.

Had such problem twice - once I had to remove one link (didn't send anything to Google) and in another case I had to remove content that wasn't original to the website and make it more original, wrote to Google and after about a month the website get back on track of good traffic and at good positions in search engines.

Had sites disappear for 2-3 months and suddenly re-appear. I have never found an answer as to why this happens, but it is really annoying when it does. Fortunately it has only happened twice.

    Did rigorous link building!!!

Not sure. I think all those -30,950 etc names given to penalties are just bull shit

    Removed the links (Paid ones)

    you bet.

    About a month or so

Don't scrape contents. Do not buy links. Do not link to spam sites.

When those of you here say you were 'penalised' by Google - did you receive any notification as such?

I just say that this because I've noticed my site has dropped out of rankings (still indexed) one month after we started, I have had no communication from Google through Webmaster Tools and cannot think of anything that we have done wrong except have a few of our tag pages indexed and thus some duplicate content (which should be okay, and has been fixed now anyway with no-index tags).

So did you receive messages from Google, or do you just presume you were penalised?
